Fuel Filter- HELP...................................... - 06/27/09 06:25 PM

71 Superbee.

I just installed a new fuel tank and sending unit.

If I install 2 inline see-through filters to catch any debris, will that create any suction issues with 2? My thinking with 2 is just added insurance that no debris makes it to the carb and after its running and I see it's all clear, I would remove one of the filters.

If the fuel tank is new then you probably won't have any crud in the fuel.

It's still a good idea to run a filter on both sides of the pump.

(1)it could depending on the micron filtering specs of it(them) which would make it more likely to vapor lock & 2 filters is not good depending on the type(the see thru w the removeable off white plastic filter section inside it they dont filter small particles well and the ends tend to have restrictions). (2) With a new tank your system is pretty much debris free except what will come in at the gas station & I would put a good(name brand low micron) filter between the pump and the carb & call it good and possibly putting a good HIGH FLOWING less restrictive filter before the mech pump to protect it from major debris. You could add a see thru filter right next to the carb for visual purposes when you're under the hood again depending on it's restriction and the bottom line w that is how much psi do you have at the end of the quarter(or the neighbors street

I have run up to 3 filters on a stock pump for the same reasons

just did not replace anything

rusty tank and fuel line

2 filters before the pump and one after the pump worked fine,till I got more rust holes in the line

then it would blow air bubbles in the filter after the pump and had supply trouble

I added a little cheap in line banger pump to help keep fuel to the stock pump and it worked fine for a while

I changed the line and removed the extra pump,left the 3 filters

ran fine with it like that for a long time

Two filters worked fine. First one caught a teeny bit of rust that must have been in the line from the old tank. Ran it for 20 mins, took the first filter off in front of pump and left the other in after pump - all clean and runnin' mean!

If they are see thru they are plastic or glass.Neither should be used.Get a metal filter.Plastic can melt and glass can break.No track will allow them if you run the car.Fire hazard.Rocky
