A Body Steering Gearbox Question. - 06/23/09 07:42 PM

My 68 Dart Manual gear box has quite a bit of play in it, is there any adjustment on these?

Yes there is...There's a big nut on top of the box with a set screw in the centre of it. Loosen the nut, turn the set screw clockwise until the slop is gone, then hold the set screw while retighting the nut. Besure not to over-tighten the set screw.

Does a power steering box have the same adjustment screw?

unfortunately no and on the manual box have the wheels straight ahead & wiggle the steering shaft lightly back & forth with one hand until the play is JUST gone with the other hand adjusting the set screw CW & as said lock it down & dont let the adj screw move

The power steering box on my '68 vert has the adjustment screw.
