Symptoms of excessive axle endplay - 06/23/08 08:53 PM

Are there any symptoms from excessive axle endplay? I changed chunks and noticed that know I have some major endplay. In fact you can push in on the axles and the axles will move up and down. Not good Im sure. I'll adjust the endplay, but wondering if there are any symptoms when driving.

If you have tapered bearings you need to make sure you set preload correctly. Also, if tapered bearings, did the lash pin fall out by mistake or is it missing it all together?

No, its a 489 case. Either a 70 or 71 model.

The 3.23 case was a 489 also, but open.

The 4.30 case is a cone sure grip that I rebuilt last winter. Ive had the case in the car before. I sure dont think that anything fell out of it when I had it apart.

It will make the axle seals leak, letting grease on your drums and brake shoes.
