Widening stock rims - 06/22/09 02:31 AM

There is a guy in PA that widens stock rims. Saw him at Carlisle, but had no need for the service at the time. Is it someone on here, have the info, or know someone else that does this?

There's Stockton wheel which has been around for a long time but is on the left coast so yes some more local would be cheaper for you.

A lot of times the tapers ( where the lug nuts contact the wheels ) are in poor shape on highly used wheels - although they might not look it.

Stockton will have you waiting till the next Dinosaurs appear on earth. I waited 5 months till I got mine back and they gave me attitude. Try some one local.

Check with circle track guys, they build wheels with weird offsets all the time. I know there is a guy in Michigan somewhere that will build you any width you want. His wirk looks really nice, I want to say it was diamond wheel or something like that

That was my experience too.
Maybe 15 years ago. I was told 2-4 weeks. 6 weeks passed and I called, I was told they were boxing them as we speak. 2+ weeks and I called again. I was told they were going to build them this next week. I canceled and it took months to get my deposit back.

I have a friend who couldn't get the wheel BS he wanted, so he made his own out of a blank chunk of alluminum!!!!
It would be cool to be a machinist like this guy.

Don't know anything about this place, i picked up the card at a bike event (I think) thinking about the alloy wheel thing myself.
Wheel Works 1703 N. Rte.130 Burlington, NJ 08016
Tim Smith 609-387-4488
Card says alloy and aluminum rims repaired and widened.

Speedway sells wheel hoops; IIRC they're the right diameter to take MoPar centers.

Anyone for a 14" wide steelie with poverty caps?

The guy at Carlisle goes by the name "Wheeler Dealers", Bill Cooper, 717-284-2638 or 717-872-8623. He is in Holtwood, PA. He doesn't ship anymore, so you have to catch him at a show or pick them up. He stocks 15x8 - 4" backspacing, but will make any back spacing you want. Very reasonable (1/2 the price of Stockton). We put them on our old 64 Ply.

Curt McKim(mcwheels on here) from Iowa was building custom rims and sometimes has an ad in the wheels for sale listing here.
He made a pair of 15x8 rallyes for my superbee that turned out well.
