How wide of a wheel/tire would I be able to fit if I mini-tubbed my Super Bee? I am thinking of doing it like this:
http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/body/hrdp_0903_diy_mini_tubbing_guide/photo_01.htmlThey never say how many inches they got from the procedure. I would imagine 2-3"and I could go measure to get a good idea... but how many inches do you get from the spring relocation?
I'd kinda like to shorten my rear end as well for a deeper wheel (or buy a shortened rear). What's the best option considering I was already planning on changing my ring and pinion?

How wide of a rear are you wanting to run? I have a '68 RR and I'm currently running a 305/40/18 on a 10" width rim with absolutely no problem.
I would think you'd only want to mini-tub if you're planning on running a 12" width rim which was a little too wide for my tastes.
FYI........I'm located in Houston if you want to have a look at mine.

A SB has even more room than a RR. One of the nice things about a '68 - '70 B body is how much bigger of a tire you can fit than the GM A body guys. I have 275/60/15's which are a big tire to me, but I would think you could fit a 305 or even a 315 in there without going with the mini-tub.
What size are your TT's and tires now, Steve?

They are 8.5" TT with 295/50R15 Firehawks. They are too short of a tire for one, and I really should go wider anyway with the plans I am concocting. I have 275/60R15 TA's on the Cuda's 8" Rallyes, and those tires would look better on the Bee, but I am definitely going with a drag radial anyway.
I am considering taking a different approach with the car than I had in mind before. I really am thinking of stuffing some major rolling stock in there and having the car sit pretty low over it all.
If I do this I am going to go tough looking all the way. My goal is for the car to not know whether it is a street car or a race car. Something that would almost be a race car if it didn't have a really nice paint job/engine bay and interior. Plus I am not really going to chop anything up other than possibly the inner fenders. I've added sub frame connectors, torque boxes, Hemi spring reinforcement plates, and a pinion snubber plate, but that's as far as the body mods will go.
I MAY be able to simply shorten the rear end to achieve what I am after. I'd most likely have to relocate the springs if I did that. But maybe I don't have to mini tub it to get the look I am going for. That would be a MAJOR plus... (I don't feel real good about chopping up this solid car).

Definitely do what makes you happy Steve, I just thought the car looked so good already!
Keep us updated!

The springs are pretty much even with the factory tub at the factory. Making tubs is worthless without Spring relocation. You basically have to do both.
You can gain a lot by making the outer tub wall go straight up.

I just read an article where I guy had a 70 Road Runner and he used a 3.5" spring relocation kit, mini tubbed the car and went with 12" rims with 29X15.50-15 Hoosiers. The car looks pretty sweet, and that's a lot of rubber! It just might be what I am wanting. I might want a LITTLE taller tire if possible though? Maybe not.
I think I can move the inner wheel wells in and make it look pretty dang close to factory. It's kinda silly that they didn't just come that way to begin with. That 3" gap between the wheel well and the frame seems like such a waste.

Did you read the article in one of the mags a while back about a 1 of 9 (IIRC) '68 or '69 Hemi GTX Vert racecar? They had some info on tire and slick sizes in that article that might be interesting.

We ran 10" wide wheels with a 5" BS on our 70 'Beeper using a 10.5x29.5 drag slick.Had to trim the lip and a leading edge of the fenderwell, but it fit great.

29 is a really really tall. You will have a stink bug look to it if you do not lower it some.
