Aftermarket shifter under a factory auto console???

Aftermarket shifter under a factory auto console??? - 06/12/09 09:07 PM

My 727 has a manual valvebody, which could be a lot of fun to drive...

But the factory (woodgrain push button) shifter is not set up to shift manually very well. (I have to push the button to upshift, no reverse lockout, etc.)

I would like to get an aftermarket (B&M, Hurst, etc) shifter which is designed for a manual valvebody, but I don't want to cut up my facory console.

Will any of the commonly available shifters fit with minimal hacking? Any recommendations? Who has done this on a street or mild strip car? Can I see your pictures? Should I post this in the Race forum?

Thanks all in advance.

BTW it's reverse pattern if that matters.

Hmm, I think I would have tracked down a slap stick so I could use the stock console and leave the manual valve body out of it. But the fix above looks nice if you can weld.
