727 LEAKING- Thinking of a shift kit. - 05/31/09 12:45 AM

Hi All- My trans is leaking. Not 100% sure, but hoping it is an easy fix. Shifts fine so maybe just one of the common leaks a 727 gets, Any thoughts on putting in a shift kit while I open her up? Is it easy to do for a weekend mechanic with regular tools? Any particular kit recommended over others? I was thinking of a Transgo Performance TF-1. Thanks.

I had 2 slight leaks on my 70 Runner and wondered why I waited so long to tackle them ...

One was right around the dipstick area - mine was "press fit" in, and it only needed a new "O" ring

and the other spot was the gasket around the servo shaft, in which case - you don't need to pull the whole tranny to fix

Hopefully your will be an easy one

Sometimes you will see a problem around the tail shaft housing bushing seal

just tossing out some ideas

Hi Scratch- What's the difference between the TF1, street use (which I mostly do) and the TF2, racing use. Also, I've been trying to find a components list for these kits but no luck. What parts in the tranny are actually changed? Thanks.

personal preforance mostly

I like the hard shifts and full manual shift on the street

its just whats recomended most often

along with the billet servos and the eagle red clutches and coleen steels

the billit servos can be had from board member and sponser ROBMC IIRC..look for the add flashing on top of page also

CRT is the place for the kits, they are a sponser here on the board

give john a call he can help you with the ?s

look for the add at the top of the page

the trans go III kit is for full manual shift valve body

you may very well only need the tf-I shift kit

I am no guru but I am saving up for the bullit proof 727 from john at crt

A&A transmission is another here on the board thats top shelf

maybe john kunkle will chime in he is a guru also with good advice
