Not sure what you mean by "Regular". ULSD is less than 15ppm sulphur. The previous LSD was "less than 500ppm" Prior to that was 3000ppm.
You are just putting more wear on the cat--more soot to burn off, more ash to contend with.
Over the long haul not a good idea, a few tankfuls? no problem.
But I don't see the real upside. Non-taxed off-road fuel???? (hmmmm?) Red dye?

you can clog/damage the DPF filter if im not mistaken.
Costs around 1000 bucks if it needs to be cleaned/replaced

I'm asking because I just traded my '02 diesel in on the '08. The gas station I always use has one diesel pump and it's not ULS. Do I need to start going out of my way to find ULS?

I bet it is(ULSD), what color is the fuel?

I thought ALL diesel sold for road use is ULSD now?????? (in the USA anyway)

There are about 10 pumps in a line and above the first two it has the wording Ultra Low Sulfur Fuel Here with arrows pointing to the two pumps.

Yes the Pilot has it but it's 15 miles out of the way. The station I pass daily doesn't. I don't want to drive 30 miles round trip just to fuel-up.

When they came out with ULSD they also mandated a sticker to placed on the pumps saying which was ULSD and which was not. Big yellow sticker, can't miss it.

Not quite, LSD is still around, at least at most of the truck stops (no idea on the 4 wheeler stops) I use since I drive a pre-07 Freightshaker. Not advised to use ULSD in my truck, but it will work if as long as it's not used on a continual basis.
When I do put in ULSD I throw in a bottle or Howes or Lucas in the tanks to help in the decreased lube factor.

All the ULSD diesel we get around here has lubricity agents added at the terminals before we get it.Been running a small fleet(9) of 2000-2004 trucks on ULSD diesel now for a few years now with no problems.

this ULSD is an on going topic every where.
it was brought on by our goverment before they researched it completely,,,as usuall,,
the current mandate for ULSD to be sold in the US
is 2010, it was orignally 2007, so it is not sold every where in the US yet,,calif is currently the only state mandated to sell it,,but it is available in many places,

The pump/tank has to be certified for ULSD. Obviously, for a while, the ULSD mixes with the LSD that was in the tank.
It takes a while for the LSD to be used up and the tank certified.
What I've read is that some station owners have chosen not to certify some pumps since LSD gives better mileage than ULSD. So, people who have diesels that can take LSD think they're getting better fuel at the LSD pump.
Most likely, they're getting the same fuel as the ULSD pumps.

All on highway diesel is ULSD now. I am selfemployed and work on Cummins and Pwrstrokes. All of my customers have started using Diesel Kleen by Power Service. You can buy it at Advanced,Autozone etc. It comes in a silver quart bottle that is around 8.00.It has a lubricant in it called slick diesel and also raises the Cetaine value as much as 6 points(like octane in gasoline). All of my customers have picked up from 1 to 2 miles per gallon by using it.If your tank is around 35 gallons pour 1/2 quart in it everytime you fill up. The lubrication alone is worth the extra 4.00 per fillup plus the added fuel mileage. Since ULSD has come on the market I have been swamped with injector wear and failures in powerstrokes and lift pump/injection pump failures in cummins.Not to mention fuel leaks caused by oring deteriation from the low sulfur.

Pouring in ATF will help lubricity? I have a bunch of Honda fluid. Lots of Honda gear lube too.

That has been my impression, but I haven't been everywhere to know for sure. ULSD was in the ground here at least 12 months before it was law. It was all you could get, clear(taxed)diesel for at least a year before like I said.
