Wrong leaf springs ? - 05/17/09 10:38 PM

I noticed on my buddies 65 Coronet that the rear hanger on his leafs springs point forward alot. And on the lift they actually lay on the frame facing all the way forward. I wonder if someone put the Plymouth springs on it since the Plymouths have a shorted wheelbase then the Dodge by 2 or 3 inches ?? Ron

Sounds like he needs extended front spring hangers. The shackle should be vertical or angled backwards when at rest.

Maybe he has A-body springs, can you get a measurement that will tell.

All 65 Bs had 21 inch frt segment.Ill bet they are SS springs with 20 inch fronts. That would make them short.Thats why you need the Mancini hangers.Rocky

He bought the car this way and I agree it has the wrong spring and maybe its an A-body spring. I know when I bought springs for my 63 I measured mine and my sons Dart springs and they were the same. The guy at Mancini where I bought mine said the 63 Plymouth takes the same spring as the A-body and mine fit just right. Maybe someone thought the 65's were the same ? I will tell him to just get the longer front spring hangers. Thanks , Ron

I believe the rear segment on a-body springs measure 35" from center bolt to center of rear eye and the b-body ones measure 36". Someone put b-body ss springs on my Dart and the shackle point's back too far and almost hit's the frame...
