bone stock typical 84 318 2 bbl holley
mopar ignition, new ECU, new dist, new coil.
Engine will only run if the choke is 1/2 on, it dies as soon as it is leaned out. Originally thought it was sucking air from a hole in the sending unit, but that didn't do the trick.
Car acts like its not getting fuel, but when I take the fuel filter off, it flows gas. This happened on a 75 mile trek to buy parts, and it just started missing and losing power after an hour on the road.
Carb related? or another junk ECU from autozone?

Sounds like an electronic carb if its an '84. Those things suck without the electronics hooked up. Can cause all kinds of problems. Whenever I converted my lean burns to electronic, I'd swap out the carb for a 70s BBD

Most BBD's suck too. My opinion is that all BBD's should be used for fish habitat at the bottom of the ocean... but I digress...
If you think you aren't getting all the fuel you are supposed to, double check your fuel lines from the tank to the carb. I had a tiny leak that showed no wet spot and offered no fumes, but was enough to defeat the pump. A few bucks worth of new lines, and never had the problem again!

It's carb related and I think a previous poster is on to something. The metering of the feedback carbs uses a solenoid controlled valve to regulate mid-throttle fuel flow. If that is disconnected or fouled up you could have that part of your fuel flow closed off and need to run the choke to suck enough gas through the other circuits to run.

I'll check the fuel lines, as well as look at the carb. As rotten as the sending unit was, when I replaced that, I thought it would be the fix.
Anyone have a carter 2bbl in good running shape near cleveland, oh?
I ahve several I'm in Pittsburgh. Check for vac leak that year 318 loves intake gaskets. By the way the BBD 2 barrel is a very reliable carb. By the way I had a similar problem try adjusting the idle mixture screws and keep them as even as possible

My old 318 2bbl had a float level problem that caused it to run lean... I've heard that's a common problem with them.
Forgot to ask did you set the metering rods?
A customer of mine changed directions on his project after I restored this one for him, he wants $200.00 for it. I just completed a complete restoraton on it, ran great on the mule engine test, I still have it here if you need it.
