Tire size ,cop wheels on a 67 B-body - 05/13/09 11:52 AM

I have a 67 Coronet drum brakes all the way around,SS Springs on the rear, I'm thinking about putting on 7" steel cop wheels all the way around they have 4.375 BS. My question is what size tires should go on this setup and look good and not give me any problems with clearence. I would kinda like to keep all 4 the same size so I can rotate them.

I would say if you're going to have all four the same, 235/60's would look good. If not, I have a 275/60 on a 7" steel wheel, with 4.25" BS. No rub

I used a 275/60/15 on a 67 GTX and Coronet. The rub up in the well on big bumps...and these cars had XHD springs. The SS's should give you a little more ride hight. These are L60/15 slicks fronts are 215/75/15's on a 15x6 rim

I run 245/60's on 7" steelies in back on mine. Look pretty good, and not even close to rubbing with stock springs. If an aggressive look is what you're going for, I'd go with a 255/60 on the 7" rims out back. Then balance that with a 215/70 on a 6" rim in front (very close in Ht., but the extra width in both the tire and rim out back will provide a nice stance).

if you want more of a stock look and to be able to rotate your tires as said before, then 225/70r15 would be a better setup, close to OE size

although he hasn't shown us the car, or let us know what look he's going for, the fact that the car has SS springs would lead me to believe he's not going for an OEM look (???)

You are correct OEM dosen't mean squat to me. I'm just in a situation were I need to set of tires and can only afford one.

Attached is a pic of my car (I brightened it so you could see the tires) with 225-70-15's all around.

I think that size tire looks too big on thye front and have since switched to 60's. In the rear, I like the taller 70 series tire.

These tires are very close to the wheelwells. I can't slip my hand very far into the wheelwell due to the close proximity of the tire to the wheelwell.

I like the looks of those. But I do agree the fronts do look a tad big.

Here is a possibility....fronts: 215/70/15 Rears: 255/70/15. That should fit. The biggest problem is in the hiney. Cop wheels are normally 4 1/4 back spacing. I have 4.5 back spacing and 275/60/15 in the rear. It's tight but no rubs. The above combo should work. Pay attention the section width of the rear tires. You should go no more than 10.5 inches with cop wheel back spacing.

Yea, nice combo, but he said he wants the same size so he can rotate them.

Fastlane Classic Cars has a picture of a '67 GTX that I think has a perfect stance. It is using 255/60/15 all the way around.

I have no affiliation with that dealer. I just really like the look of that car and thought that you would find the info helpful.
