440 Bore Question.

I have a 1972 440 that I am planning a rebuild for. Is there any problems or issues with boring this block .060 over? This is a street engine only. Will probably never see a drag strip.

Most likely you would be good but I(myself) would have it sonic checked, the price is not prohibitive & then you will know for sure that your foundation is SOLID & it gets a person in the mindset of not assuming anything which sooner or later will end up biting a person in the a$$ usually at the most inopportune time.

If it will clean up, you may consider boring it .055" over instead of .060". The piston selection is better for .055"-over than it is for .060". It sounds crazy, but it's true...

sonic check it. you want at least .150 on the major side.

although some shops will tell you they know of guys running huffers, nitrous, etc. on .100

the shop that did my block tried to talk me out of the sleeve when the cylinder wall was .128, but once they understood that I wanted .150 they were happy to do the work (and increase my bill )

, have it checked first to see how good it is at the bore it's at now , the major thrust side is not the only place you should be concerned with it's thickness .
