Need a bolt hole dimension - Small Block

On the front of some small blocks there is a bolt hole just above and outboard of the freeze plug (driver side).

If anyone has convenient access, I would like to find out the depth. Would prefer not to hit water if I end up drilling it out.

Day crew, help me out.

so you want to know how deep the hole is? or how far you can go till you hit water?

Right, I want to avoid hitting water. No idea what the casting thickness is there.

My engine doesnt have this hole drilled ...yet.

off the to of my head, I think the bolt that goes in that hole is 3/4 long.

I can measure a bare block, and let you know how deep the hole is tonight.

Couldn't you knock out the freeze plug then measure the thickness of the block there with a caliper,micrometer,etc ?

That would be one way to go Jeff, but I'd rather not have to drain and fill if I dont have to.

Gotcha...since you mentioned having to drill the hole, I assumed it was out of the car perhaps

At least if you went too deep with the hole, you could always use sealant on the threads.

I would say that sounds about right. I recall trying to get a P/S pump bracket bolt in there and there was not a lot of depth.
