hughes converters?

I just put in my Hughes converter and noticed the bolts are only 5/16 and it's a 4000 stall. The converter that I took out was only a 2500 stall Alabama and it had 7/16 bolts in it. I know it would take a lot of power to break the bolts off, but I was wondering if anyone had any problems break the 5/16 bolts off. Thanks

My 10" Midwest has 5/16" bolts in it just like a stocker. I did not break them leaving on nitrous and running 12:00@110.

I would use a flex plate with the smaller holes in it so they will not walk around.

I agree with getting a flex plate to match the 5/16" bolts. One with holes big enough to fit two size's up 7/16" bolts would worry me walking around like he mentioned. Loose/stripped out/ or back outed converter bolts are a real drag.

I put the correct flex plate on. It was just on my mind that the bolts are two sizes small and is going to launch harder. Thanks a lot guys.

My Hughes had the 5/16" also, and I never had a problem with them. I did shatter the stator hub, but Hughes and I came to the conclusion that was probably just a unlucky weakness, not something normal.

I was going 11.40's in my 63 Dart with a Hughes converter and 5/16" bolts. Ran it for 9 years and never had a problem

3,000. I was only running 13.20-13.50 with it at the time also lol
