Gen3 6.4 to A833 flywheel - 04/29/24 12:56 PM

Hi all,

I feel like I'm missing something very elementary here, or making this way more complicated than it needs to be, but I'm planning to put an A833 behind a 6.4l Gen3 Hemi in my 66 Charger. My motor was originally mated to a TR6060, and I still have that stock flywheel. However, I'm open to a new billet one.

That said, I'm planning on the Lakewood Al bell (LK7000) and while shopping for flywheels it seems a lot are marked as right/passenger side starter while others are marked left/drivers, and some don't mention at all. In my mind it seems like the starter spinning the same CW direction should engage with the ring gear teeth similarly regardless of side...so what am I missing? Does it matter?

For those playing along at home, it looks like there's a .375" difference on the ring gear location forward-back (at least on the RAM models). The passenger side version sits flush with the crank flange, and the driver's side version is pushed 3/8 back towards the trans.

I don't know anything about a gen3. My buddy justmoparjoe on YouTube put a gen3 in his 70 Challenger with A833. I think he said the crank wasn't drilled deep enough for the pilot so he had to cut some off and run the ball bearing from O'Riellys for a 95 Ram. Sorry I don't know anything about that kinda stuff.

I think you should put this on the Gen 3 forum.

Thanks Rick! I should hopefully have a transmission and bell in-hand by end of week, so I'll mock it up and start measuring. I'll peruse the Gen3 forum as well.

What really has me scratching my head is the Lakewood bell site states "early truck flywheel required" but that seems to conflict with the 130t mandate...which one is wrong beats me until I have it in hand.

Justmoparjoe made it work and has been driving it for years. He may have made a video about it.

I put a 833 behind a 6.4 in a 72 Cuda. Get a hold of Brewers. Set me up.

"Early", depends on you perspective. For me that would be 172t. But I would assume is 143t, as that is what dodge started using in 1969 on trucks. And 68-69 BB cars. I thought I read the crank flange location was a little different but when using the stock bell it still worked.
