TKX shifter options

TKX shifter options - 03/27/24 03:22 PM

My first post here.
Hello from Saanichton BC Canada.
Working on my 70 Bee and looking for shifter options for a TKX swap.
My current 833 has a mid mount shifter (offset). I'd want to use the same hole in the floor.
Looking around online I haven't seen what I want.
Anyone know if it's an option or would I have to relocate the hole?
Thanks

Couldn't you have a bracket made and use the original Shifter?
If not, contact silver sport trans. They sell tkx kits and should have something.

Yes I can make an adapter to offset the shifter stick but it appears to be more than that because of the height.
Looking at these pics it may be a case of having to extend the hole in the floor over 4" +/- and hope the boot covers it or I'll be working on the tunnel and buying new carpet.
The advertising says "bolt-in"... it should say somewhere; "center mount / console shifter location".

You are relocating the hole , there is not doubt about that.

You also want to pay attention to your driveline angle, the torsion bar crossmember is small in the tunnel on the 70 down B body and back when another company first offered a T5 conversion that they touted as a NO HACK INSTALL they included a trans crossmember that angled the engine way down because as you well know 99.9% of Mopar guys will not modify anything on their precious car as it will take away perceived value ...

They make an offset shift for the G-body Chev so I thought... maybe... but no. That's fine, I'm ok with floor mods... it's had them before anyways.
I had to laugh at the 99.9% no-mod mopar gestapo comment. So true!

An offset shifter wouldn't help with the shift tower location , it's on the highest point of the trans and nowhere near the stock location , it's ok if you have a console as it can be hidden .

Dayclona has shown pictures of the actual tunnel mods needed to be done if you want stock driveline angle .

I'll check that out. I do want to retain the stock driveline angle.

They may not work but I did find a supplier for shifter options.

SilverSport has an offset shifter for you application that will bring it up into the stock location 100%. My buddy has done this on my old car which is now his , a 66 440 based Satellite. Now with any TKX installation the trans does sit about 3/4" or 1" lower at rear but they call that within spec. you have to check your driveline angle before and after and adjust if needed. Would I have wanted it 100% the same as factory 100% yes but unless you cut into the torsion bar crossmember that willnot happen and I've had long conversations with them about this. They stand by that it is a bolt in which it is and once you make sure pinion angle is correct afterwards or maybe correct term is driveline angle and you measure for driveshaft to the way they need you to you will be fine and they are right about that and many are out there banging gears including mine with the shifter at the rear mount position with a real funky looking adapter plate for my 72 B-body bucket seat console application.

From what I understand there is also American Powertrain you can check with also but Silver Sport was very complete and good to me so that's who I would recommend.

Thanks Ron
Speaking with the supplier he's said pretty much what you did. up
We've installed a few A500's in A bodys which have the same clearance issues. In those we replace the tunnel sections of the torsion bar x-members with a 1/4" plate shaped to the floor and weld them in.
I can do the same here if a hammer dimple or two won't make the clearance. I don't do rattles or things banging on the floor... weird noises drive me nuts!
