Barry Grant Six Shooter on 440 stroker

Barry Grant Six Shooter on 440 stroker - 04/26/09 07:14 PM

I have a 440 stroked to 505, and i put a barry grant six shooter on top instead of the holley's. Since doing this the accelerator pedal has been very touch to use. It seems somewhat stiff. I know the linkage is based off of a GM, but i modified my mopar stuff to make it work. The set up has been out for a bit now and just wondering if anyone experiences same problem or a way around it. Anything to help. THanks.

Make sure that you are taking advantage of the full range of movement of your gas pedal and throttle cable. Use that maximum range of motion measurement to determine where to locate the attachment point on the throttle lever on the carb, so you match it's range of motion exactly.

You may have to move or modify the lever on the carb to optimize the ratio of gas pedal/cable movement to the throttle lever movement. The gas pedal/cable range of motion should be greater than the throttle lever's rannge of motion. That's where you gain the mechanical advantage from the gas pedal/cable over the throttle and it becomes easier to push. If you have some unused movement in the gas pedal cable arrangement, you lose that much mechanical advantage.

In other words, if your gas pedal/cable moves 3 inches and your throttle lever moves 2.5 inches during it's stroke, you have the additional mechanical advantage that the .5" gives. Whatever that is. If they are equal, you have a one to one ratio. If it is less, you have a mechanical disadvantage etc.

Where on the center carburetor are you trying to pull from? The large hole towards the top or one of the smaller ones?

I am not sure exactly where it is connected, but i will look and get back with you. Have you had a lot of Mopar concerns with this set up?
