alt wiring compared to old. Durango engine in a 65. - 06/14/08 08:15 PM

So I am dropping a durango motor into my coronet.
I am looking at the wiring diagram and have a few questions.

The alt is wired to generator field and generator source.
What is that equivalent to in a round back or even square back wiring?
That is are those both the same as the field wires on a square back and if I ground one, will it work with the 65 regulator?

Or do I have to switch up to the 74 and up regulator? Because that doesn't look any better. That diagram shows both field circuits tapping off the same place for voltage.

That's like the 70s and up 2 field alternator. You could ground one and use your original regulator, but I would probably just upgrade to the newer regulator.

well, it is the electronic voltage reg, so I am not worried about that.
Same deal? Doesn't matter which one you ground?

i upgraded my charging sys. from the round back to the square in my 65 cuda. then read on here about the new mopar alt. were better so i went to the YJ and took one off a 95 intrepid. hooked it up to the same voltage reg. worked fine.
