Help Picking Tires 69RR - 02/14/24 03:36 PM

Here is what I got. Two powder coated color black steel rims, 15x8 4.5 back spacing. And two 15x7 4.25 back spacing powder coated black steel rims.
the 15x8 will go on rear. I will be buying Cooper Cobras. Would like a wider look in the back. Suspension is stock on my RR.
Any suggestion would be great help.

Thanks Tom C.

275/60s rear, 235/60 front is pretty classic sizing and what I have on my '68 RR.
Same wheel sizing as yours.

Those are Magnum 500's in a 15 inch? Where did you get them? Thanks.

Those came from Coker when everything was jacked up from Covid and they were the only place that had them.
Bought another set more recently - all 15x8 - off Ebay for my other RR.

275/60R15 Rear no rubbing
215/70R15 Front. 225/70R15 look good ,too!
235/60R15 look like crap on the front - steer away from any 60 dimension on front

IMO, 235/60 front and 275/60 rear produce the classic 3* rake outlined in the Performance Manual while still putting enough tread on the ground to be safe and produce a nice big/little combo.

A 70 series front will produce a car that sits more level.

Different strokes and all...

Not a road runner but 225/70/15 front 275/60/15 rear. The rims don't match because I was shopping for new tires and rims and a friend let me try 1 of his new tire and rear rim combo that he had for his car that wasn't done yet. He laughed when I asked if I could borrow both brand new sticker tires to see how much traction I get with them and said he no.

Car with the wheels I decided on.

You have any pics to see the side stance?

these might help. I added 1 with the F60/15 which are close to 235/60 to show how small they look in wheel house.

Re: Help Picking Tires 69RR - 02/19/24 09:02 PM

I had a little extra time so I went out to the garage and got out my extra wheels to try and show the difference in size.

It really shows how much taller a 275 tire is than a 235.

They are tall to shortest 275/60/15, 225/70/15 and the Goodyear (F/60/15) is 235/60/15.

Hope this helps Mike

drive 69 Coronet with 15x7 and 15x8 Torque Thrusts . All Tires were/are Cooper Cobra's . I had 275-60-15 on Rear and 235-60-15 on front . B-Body DODGE Rear Wheel wells are HUGE . I needed a TALLER Tire to fill Wheel well , especially viewed from the side , so I installed 255-70-15 and love how they fit + Look vs the 275-60-15s . I still have the 60s on the Front , But going with 235-70-15 this Spring . The 60s are too short for My B-Body . drive bump
