727 TF Rear Mount on E-Body issue

727 TF Rear Mount on E-Body issue - 04/26/09 02:08 AM

Hi!

I recently replaced the rear rubber mount on my 727 TF and it appears it has slipped back out of the bracket. It's supposed to press into the bracket but the aftermarket mount is way to loose. Do they make urethane mounts and a new bracket? The bracket is sheet metal formed in a u-shape and holds the rubber mount. The current doesn't hold the tranny in the right spot to have the right drive shaft angle to the pinion. It appears to be cocked to the right when looking from the tranny toward the rear end. From the side of the car it looks like the drive shaft is lower than the rear pinion right out of the tail shaft of the tranny! I've had a serious vibration for some time and I think this stinken rear mount is the issue. I've put new u-joint in the drive shaft and had it balanced so I'm quite confident it's not that. Any help is appreciated.

Can you post a picture of the mount ? I think Brewers sell the urethane mounts.

The steel sleeve should have a couple of welds on each side holding it in the U-shaped bracket, not very big weld beads so as to prevent burning the rubber bushing.

Even if the rubber is replaced with poly bushings, the sleeve needs to be welded to the bracket.

Thanks!! That's what I was thinking of doing, but wanted to hear it from someone else. The original was pressed in.

How about the angle of the drive shaft to the rear pinion? I took a few measurements tonight and "trigged" it out. The angle from the tail shaft to the pinion looking from the tail shaft to the rear end equals 3.8 degrees to the right. Isn't is supposed to be in-line with no angle?

Again thanks for the help!

Hi!

Do you have a website or phone number for Brewers?

Thanks!

Also.... Do you have any pics of your 97' Viper GTS? That's one of my favorite mopars. I've wanted one for some time. If you don't want to post it, that's fine, but could you send it via PM?

Thanks again for the info on the rear mount!

Here's a pic of my Viper, not much different than any other '97.
