'62 Dart 440 Tail Lights/ Backup Lights

Dumb question.

On the back of a '62 Dart 440 I believe the lower lights are the taillight/brake lights and the upper lights are back up lights, correct???

I think I've seen all four with red lenses and I've seen the top two with metal block-off plates but I assume those cars may not have been 440's.

That would be only I believe a Polara 500, for the record.

Back up lights should be lower to the ground, and tail lights should be up high for visibility. But I don't think the guys at Chrysler were thinking like that in '62

i believe you are correct.
however, didn't the tail light and back up light bezels have the same mounting bolt patterns, so if one was so inclined, he could replace the back up light housing with a brake light housing so as to end up with four red tail lights ?
or maybe just swap the back up light lenses with red ones ?
i have four red assemblies on the shelf i picked out of a used car lot that went out of business over 50 years ago, and these came from the lot's junkyard in the field directly behind the lot.
i can't remember if they were from the same car or not.

They are not the same. The bolt patterns are though.

Sometime in the past someone "re-wired" the truck wiring harness and wired all four lights as turn/brake lights. I'll have to see what it will take to wire the backup lights back in.

The backup lenses and tail/brake lenses are interchangeable, correct?
