Need help with Lynch Rd codes - 01/04/24 04:17 AM

Hello.

Looking at a 1970 V Code Super Bee. I'm not too familiar with the option codes from Lynch Rd. Could someone help?

The main ones are the 3 digit option codes for engine/tranny/rear end.

123 051 672

Thanks in advance.

Please see attached.

Im inclined to think this is a poor re-pop from the 80s as the 051 is a 1971 Lynch Rd code for a 3:54 Dana.

Maybe someone slipped when re-popping it?

And mind you, the fender tag does not have the 26 code nor does it have a 26 in radiator.

In my opinion that looks to me to be an original tag. But just my quick opinion.

123 will be the engine code , 440 6bbl configured for auto trans use., 051 is the rear axle code , B body 8.75 , 3.23 single track 10" brakes , the 10" brakes tell you it has front power disc brakes. 672 is the last 3 digits of the transmission part number found on the pan rail ... 3410672 ... , 727 automatic.

Thank you John.

Do you have a list of the various codes for Lunch Rd built cara from 69-71 that you’d be willing to share so I could save for my records?

I would bookmark, or print out, those links , my info is from the Galen G. WHITE BOOKS I purchased years ago.

Hi A12, thank you for the links.

I'm familiar with the first link you posted but all it has is the traditional alphanumeric codes - NOT Lynch Rd. numeric codes (unless I'm gross missing something). How is this link supposed to help one decipher Lynch Rd codes?

John, are you open to sharing the information you have in your white books on Lynch Rd codes for the forum? I'm unable to find specific Lynch Rd data on MyMopar.com

Lynch Road tags are a special little bit of torture, as there are very few decoding sites on the internet.
But you can get some info from the following:

lynchroad.com
maxwedge.com
69roadrunner.net
mopar1.us

Galen would probably get me for copyright infringement ... fan

I'll look at the links and see if there is a way to decipher from what is available

Of these 69roadrunner.net is the only useful link, but it's just another forum like Moparts, ask and you get your answer. I don't know of any internet decoder site where you can plug in codes and get a decode.

His best bet is to buy GG's White books , I have a set a friend and I purchased in the late 80's , he made copies , kept the 2 he wanted gave me the other 2 and put to get a loose leaf binder of everything ... I keep that here at work... in the 200's I bought his latest releases which have way more info ... those are at home ...

One of the sites I listed has a blank tag where you put your info in and supposedly decodes it.
But yeah, most won't help directly, but the OP will learn things.
(That's not a snide remark - I've been at this stuff since the '60s, and I learn things all the time)

Re: Need help with Lynch Rd codes - 01/05/24 07:52 PM

Thank you John.

In my opinion, Galen can no sooner get you for copyright infringement for typing:

"051 = B body 8.75 , 3.23 single track 10" brakes , the 10" brakes tell you it has front power disc brakes"

Than Chrysler could sue him for deciphering what 051 means on a fender tag.

I could be wrong though. But in any event, just posting what the numbers mean does not seem like a copyright issue. Now if you were to scan the pages from his book directly, yeah, that could be a problem.

Re: Need help with Lynch Rd codes - 01/05/24 08:04 PM

Yup, I saw that and it helped greatly, but again, 051 was not on it.

I guess I will just post what I have collected on this specific thread to help the next person or if anyone wants to bookmark, that works too.

Also, if anyone would like to correct me here, please do, I have gathered bits and pieces here and there but could have very easily missed something.

Re: Need help with Lynch Rd codes - 01/06/24 05:54 AM

Maybe I've missed it but does it or does it not have a 9-3/4 Dana or does it have an 8-3/4 differential?

From what little I know a 440 with a 4-speed base got a Dana with a 3.54 ratio. The automatics got an 8-3/4 with ? 3.23, 3.55, or a Dana with a 4.10 but maybe I'm completely wrong?

Re: Need help with Lynch Rd codes - 01/06/24 06:16 AM

This was has an open 8.75 3:23.

Automatics did have a few dana options. I believe they were called the performance axle package and the super performance axle package (same as the track pack and super track pack but for an auto).

You'll notice on this tag that there is no call out for the 26" radiator - a further indicator that it had tame rear end.

Your rearend coding doesn't include brake size , for every 8 3/4 ratio there are 2 possible brake size configurations for SA and with SG, the 2 different possibilities also exist for Dana 60's except for the 999 69 code which was only 11" brakes.

Well I'm lazy so it would be scans of his books , way too much typing .

As far as Chrysler getting him, Chrysler Historical is where he got the info from and I'm sure he told them exactly what he planned to do with the information once he had it.

I, as others, are more than happy to answer any questions people have about codes.
