What Mopar parts would you like to see reproduced?

What Mopar parts would you like to see reproduced? - 11/16/23 12:30 AM

Well I was lucky enough to meet and reconnect with a restoration source at SEMA this year and they were adamant about reproducing Mopar parts, even with the economic market for cars changing. I will be giving feedback and suggestions on products and the viability of of parts to be made. Their part line will not be of sheet metal or upholstery, but everything else would be a go. Range is a-bodies, 1963-1974 b-bodies, e-bodies, 1966-1971 c-bodies and f-body cars. If you have a suggestion and possibly a pic, please post that here and I’ll be checking with them on possible product production.

I will be submitting some items myself including:
1971-1974 b-body taillights parts (except lenses).
1970-1980 a-body/F-body ducktail spoilers
1968-1970 340 exhaust manifolds.

So what suggestions do you guys have?

Heater box cases would be great, but pretty complicated to do I imagine. Nice heater box cores are not that easy to get if you have a badly broken one. The ones in the junkyards here are typically dry and fragile. New ones made in a better material would be super.

Pushbutton radio buttons?

Bumper guards for some cars are difficult to find. Most bumpers are reproduced at this point I think?

1964 Plymouth grill guard / bumper over rider?

Brushed 14" trim rings available? Seems most everyone wants 15" or bigger wheels so this may be a money looser?

Headrests?

1970 ESC gas caps. Think NOS is all that exists for some types of gas caps?

Sunroof parts like weather stripping ect.?

Luggage racks?

Brake drums that are no longer made, or made poorly.

Small bolt pattern a-body disc brake dust shields maybe?

Recall Wheels? I think someone made them and then quit?

Any unique master cylinders need reproduced?

SB 90 degree oil filter adapters are now a lot more then they used to be for some reason. Are they now hard to get?

Any steering wheels?

Some alternator pullies made back them don't look like the ones that come on alternators today.

Wiper arms or wiper blades?

Sway bar tabs for lower control arms.

Pinion yoke dust shields.

You know that will never happen but lets give thanks to a few things that are cheap. #1 Aluminum heads. In 1975 a set of Diamond or Mullens ported heads, that are dogs compared to Edelbrock Victor Jrs, cost nearly as much as what we pay now. I love it. #2 Big cubic inches. Around that same time, I don't really remember when, there was an article on the cover of Hot Rod magazine, 575 cu in MILODON MASTADON, I forgot the details but these guys probably spent 6 months and a zillion dollars to build a 575 cu in Hemi. Now we get full radius stroker cranks and H-beam rods almost for free. And you just bolt it together, like theres nothing to it. #3 Power. Before Ray Barton got so busy he offered single 4-bbl, flat tappet, pump gas street motors with 800hp. That's WAY MORE power than Pro Stock cars had in 1975. And now we have it in a grocery getter. Lets give thanks.

Re: What Mopar parts would you like to see reproduced? - 11/16/23 03:03 PM

My 1st question would be what their manufacturing capabilities are; that would refine or set expectations for possible products.
I would think they'd want to work on items with a higher volume first, or maybe those where the market supports a higher return on investment.
They might want to pick Tony D'Agostino's brain - also Joe Suchy & Jim Kramer, if possible - for items they get requests for but can't supply.
Lots of things come to mind:
Air Grabber ducting
The notorious thumbwheel dash-light dimmer switches
Proper/correct brushed trim rings
Recall wheels
Decent fuel sending units
Lower dash pads for '68-'69 B bodies
LA-engine left side manifold heat shields

Re: What Mopar parts would you like to see reproduced? - 11/16/23 04:12 PM

We have reached a point of devastation concerning not just manufacturing- but ANYTHING that requires human beings to make work. In manufacturing- such as our beloved car parts- there is a shortage of COMPETENT workers. What workers show up are below average to unacceptable. What product is made and makes it out the door is suspect in quality to unusable. Look at the service you get with your drs office now- go to a restaurant- try a fast food drive thru at 7pm. AMD a while back was dumping a lot of sheet metal- I assume these items will no longer be made? I was lucky to get my Hoosier pro street radial rear tires 2 months ago. Summit and Jegs - either "None in stock" or "Better order soon 1 in stock." But I would like to see all mopar sheet metal continued ready to use- drop in wire harnesses.

Hood ornament for 1966 Plymouth , and I'll loan my original to pattern off of. There are a couple companies making the 67 style

All they need to make is the die-cast for the 66

The engine size decals are already available

And I'll second the left exhaust heat shield / gasket for 340

This. Exactly this.

I was one of them that gave a deposit for two sets back when Metro first floated the idea. Sadly they did not get enough interest back then. I doubt it would be better now.
If I win the lottery, this is one thing I plan to rectify.

Overlooked makes and models need any support?

Any parts needed for the older 70's Dodge pickups - ie the bird bath hood years. Grilles, side trim, dash pads, roll bars, etc.
C-body parts?
80's Shelby cars? Weather-stripping, Shelby seat covers, door panels?
AMC cars?

1970 Coronet tail panel? I don't think those have been reproduced?

Any emblems that aren't made? Plymouth Scamp, Pickups, C-body stuff, ect.

After a month or two, I will gather intell to see if any of the parts are being reproduced, are feasible to reproduce or just a general idea on what would be a sellable product.

A long shot but,

If someone can put me in contact I might by the dies or cad files for them if they exist. Might also consider having the dies made but would need a perfect example to work from.
Then the question is what are people willing to pay for them?

Pin type caliper adapters for the 11.75 rotors, probably the calipers too. Would be a good set.

Seems people sell the sliders now. The pin type allow for more expansion without seizing up. The pin type were fairly hard to find back in the late 90s when I did the swap, appear to be almost nonexistent today.

Parts for AMC cars. LOL. I appreciate the sentiment but they're not gonna reproduce stuff for the 17 AMC cars left surviving. laugh2

How about window sweeps and T-Top seals for the '84 through '92 Daytonas and Lasers? The last NOS set sold a couple years back now and those of us who couldn't afford $1000 worth of 40-year-old rubber are left cobbling pieces made for the Camaro & Mustang T-top cars.

a few weeks ago, [possibly 2 months or better] i was wanting new 15" tires for the front of my charger.
i wanted something that didn't look like the "tractor type" tread pattern of all season tires.
what a chore that was !
i finally found a pair that had a grooved pattern almost reminiscent of "summer tires" of old.
the company was Land Sail, and of COURSE they were not made HERE ! mad
i debated for a while, but i finally pulled the trigger on them, a pair of 215-70r 15. i think they were around 68 each.
when they arrived, i was pleasantly surprised. nice tread pattern as pictured, and seemed to be as well constructed as any tire offered at most tire shops.
i had them mounted on a new set of 7" wide torque thrust originals [with the straight spokes] and it took only 1/4 once on one wheel and 3/4 ounce of weight on the other to balance them.
they go down the road very nice, no pulls, vibrations, nothing but smooth "sailing".
i don't expect a long life, but who knows ?
we shall see, but the car is put up for the winter. [after i FINALLY got it going again since 2006. biggrin]

C-body parts?
80's Shelby cars? Weather-stripping, Shelby seat covers, door panels?
AMC cars?

1970 Coronet tail panel? I don't think those have been reproduced?

Any emblems that aren't made? Plymouth Scamp, Pickups, C-body stuff, ect.

I could use parts for my '70 Javelin. Marker lights, plastic dash frame pieces, headliner, brake rotors etc.

Don't quote me, but I believed those were made by Glen Ray Radiators at one time.

AMD has a potential complete car coming by 2026, but you have to assemble it yourself.

How about let's start by first reproducing what's currently available CORRECTLY? Quality control is horrible in the classic car hobby. I don't mind spending premium dollars for premium quality. So much of what's out there is just wrong, or doesn't fit. Example: the bumper fillers that are currently available for the front of a 70 Coronet are pitiful...and they cost a pretty penny. Just my 2 cents.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet:

1970 Charger tail finish panel (Charger R/T and 500) - hard to find in usable condition and quite expensive
