Correct paint markings for a 69 B Body Dana 60? - 11/11/23 03:32 AM

Hi, can anyone post a picture of a correctly detailed 69 b body 3.54 Dana 60? I have the tube decal, sure grip lube, and ratio tags for it. It's going in a 69 charger with a Hemi and a 4 speed. I saw a 440 4-speed Daytona at a local show a couple months ago. Are those markings correct?

I'm not going to answer your question just give you some food for thought. I only replicated the markings I found on my car after going to a Super Chevy show years ago. I walked a line of 70 Chevelles that was about 50 yards long and every one of them had identical under hood markings as if GM had one assembly line and one inspector, made me laugh.

True - the best thing is to replicate the markings that were on the rear axle that was factory-installed in the car.
But short of having documented those, there are markings likely to be common among all Mopar Dana 60s.
You can find those illustrated at the ISCA website, among other places.

Typically the original markings are gone so restoration guys just copy a picture in a book. That is why you can go to a car show and a bunch of cars will have the identical chalk marks. It does look funny when there is a row of them.

It always amazed me how people think that every paint swab inspection mark is identical. laugh2

The were usually done free hand by different inspectors on different days and different shifts.

They might be similar, but never identical.

It's a smear of paint done to show that bolts were torqued or the correct part was installed.

Only ones done with a stamp are going to look the same which is mainly a GM thing.

I don't have any markings to go off on this axle. It was very rusty. It took a lot of sanding and glazing putty to look good. I'm upgrading from a 8-3/4 for a 4 speed conversion. My original axle is rust-free and has all the original markings intact. I'm trying to make this differential look as nice as the one that is coming out. Original dana 60s are long gone around here, so I had to buy one out of state and restore it.
