How hot does a header tube off of the flange get typically?

Its hot probally 1000 degrees.Put it this way they can glow red hot.Rocky

I've only seen them glow red when the engine runs lean, or on engine break-in... but that's just me.

I've seen them glow red when the timing was not advanced enough.

both

lean condittion will glow

and retard timming will glow red

retard timming has more top end but has fire in the tube about 10-12 inches out of the port from the headers scavaging effect

i see from 1320 to 1375* on my ARC EGT probe.
