14" rims on a b body

14" rims on a b body - 04/23/09 02:56 AM

I was thinking about using some 245 60s on a set of steel rims for my 70 superbee. Would these look too small? What rim would I need to fit a 245 60X14?

Thanks!

BFG lists a rim width range of 7.00" - 8.5". Looks? You'll have to decide. Have a look at the Americain Racing website. You can get an image of a specific vehicle with different size wheels/tires. Even with close attention to backspace, 245's may be a little close on the front. If at all possible, I'd suggest getting a trial wheel/tire for fit check.

Most performance muscle cars came with 15" wheels OE. I like 17's myself but that's just me.

I used to run 245/60/14's on the front of of a 69 charger.

They fit and looked goo.

In all honesty, these day's 14' tires on the verge of extinction.

There are much better choices out there.

To me, 15" rims are a minimum for a hobby car.

i have larger tires now (225/70-14 all around - basically stock type), as the ones on the car when i got it were pretty small...245/60-14s on back, 225/60-14 on the front........on an older B it might look better -

Actually most old school Chrysler Corp muscle came with 14" rims, never could figure that one out about Ma Mopar.

with vintage muscle cars (1965-'71) 14" tire is where it was (STD), 15" exceptions:

1968-'69 HEMI b-bodies
BOSS 302 & 429 Mustangs
AAR, T/A, & HEMI 'Cudas & Challengers
Camaro Z/28s
1970-'71 GSX Buicks
1969 HURST/OLDS

that's like "IT", I'm sure I left some out ('Vettes & full size intentionally)

I currently have 14" keystones on the front of my 70 roadrunner and 15" cragars on the rear. They look just fine and you really need to look close and know your stuff to tell the difference.I'm guessing the majority of people will never notice they're 14's.

To my eye, a 60-series tire on a 14" rim looks too short, and doesn't fill the opening enough; on 14s I usually go with a 70-series tire in 215 to 235 width. I've also "cheated" and used a 14x7 instead of a 14x6 wheel to "bulk up" the appearance.

that size tire looks small on an a-body. it will look like a doughnut spare on a b-body.
