Torque Converter - 07/19/23 10:45 PM
70 challenger 440 mag with 727 trans. When problem 1st started i would put car in reverse getting it out of garage and tires would chip and engine would die this would happen a couple of times till car would stay running when in gear. Now something is making a awful noise like something hitting sheet metal, I thought starter was not disengageing completey but that was fine. Would a bad torque converter make that sound ? If so how would I check it ?
thanks

Check the bolts on the flexplate to make sure one or some haven't backed out.

Everything is nice and tight can not see anything wrong. If you go to this link you can listen to noise,

Sounds like something is hitting the inspection cover

Agree ,
Take off the sheetmetal cover , if something is hitting it like that then you will see a circular scrape

Try moeving the convertor clockwise and counter clockwise by hand to see if the flex plate to crank bolts are tight.
