70/71 B/E body console - 06/24/23 09:53 PM

I was wondering… how did you get storaged 4 seatbelt buckles on the center console provision if it seems there is room for just two?

Wouldn't the back belts just lay on the rear seat?
Not long enough to reach console?

70/71 got two buckles per bucket. One for lap, the other for shoulder belt

70 E Body Console Only

And the rear holder in console was for the front shoulder straps only

Early 71s got also that console. You can see it in many Chargers. Even in Venezuela assembled Chargers (no E bodies aseembled)

Here one example of a 71 Charger with that Console

Soooo its objective is just the shoulder ones? Interesting.

I believe it was for the front seat lap belt buckles.

Yes I know was for the front belt buckles, but allways thought all 4 of them should fit there somehow, not just 2.

Lap, shoulders?

Or maybe both passenger since we get allways a driver which should use seatbelts?

Those consoles are reproduced / reproduction for 1970 and 1971-1974 also

So anyone could have thrown or added that console over the years , buying at swap meets and never even realized the differences between the 70/71

I could see possibly early build 71 B Bodies getting that console , anything is possible with Mopar

Just like I have seen late production factory original unrestored 71 Chargers with mis - matched 71/72 Concealed headlamp doors

Good friend is restoring a Factory 70 Challenger RT Convertible , left the factory with a 383 - 3 Speed manual - FC7

He converted it over to a 4 speed and bought the 1971 - 74 Console at a swap meet - Didn’t even realize the 1970 specific console exsisted

No need to over think it.

Any owner back than & now too, can use the slots for what they choose.

Also consider this;

The C15 - Deluxe Seat Belts option included brackets mounted on the seats for each buckle to clip on when they were not in use - even in cars with the C16 center console.

As I told, no 70 E bodies build in Venezuela and most 71 Chargers got that one. So, theorically there was no reason to Chrysler of Venezuela assembly plant using those “by mistake” on Venezuelan assembled 71 Chargers, except if USA sent those because those were to ones to be used.

There is a similar difference about the seatback panels on 71 some using the 70 kind and rest using the lates model… same about hoods.

Definitely something changed on all this parts mentioned along the 71 production for whatever reason
