Federal P/S Pump - Hose O-Ring Question

Federal P/S Pump - Hose O-Ring Question - 04/25/23 09:04 PM

Question about the O-ring that is used in Federal power steering pumps where the high pressure hose fitting attaches to the pump. I have both an NOS pump rebuild kit and an aftermarket. Both kits include two different style O-rings that I assume are for the hose fitting. Do I use one or the other or both?

First pic shows the two different style o-rings.
Second pic shows the flat o-ring in place in the p/s pump. Seems like a perfect fit but why the xtra round o-ring?

Thanks

When I redid my Federal pump, I used the smaller O ring for the hose and the taller one on the bolt that holds the tank
to the pump.

Uh oh, I can’t remember noticing a seal around that bolt.when I rebuilt mine.

Been a long time since I did this. Did the kit directions tell you which seals included? That tall seal looks to tall for the bolt seal, but it may be optical look. I did not think the kit had seals for hose, I thought they came with the hose.

Thanks for the replies! Solarguy, you probably saved me a big mess or at a minimum a constant leak. Yep, the flat style o-ring is for the reservoir bolt hole. Forgot that on assembly. Installed now and my question has been answered regarding the high pressure hose. Thanks again
