Vinyl Top - Rust Stains

Vinyl Top - Rust Stains - 02/18/23 05:52 PM

I think I know the answer, but figured I'd ask here before reluctantly removing the vinyl.

I have a little rust stain showing on near the drip rail/edge about 2 or so inches above the windshield on the 77 Gran Fury.
Is there any product that can possibly slow the rusting, this isn't a show car, its an original daily driver that is in decent condition, but will never be restored. I intend to just drive it and enjoy it.

I'd rather not remove the top, because it's in overall good shape. But if the roofs going to be rotting away and leaking then it's gotta go.

I didn't know if there was some magical sealer I could use on the vinyl to extend it's time.

A closer photo of the are would be helpful.
Is the vinyl in good shape, or cracked/splitting ?
If the metal under the top has corroded, it sure won't get better with time.

Side note - I've never noticed those 2 little guards at the bottom of the ft bumper before...interesting.

Agreed ,
or Pop the trim off and find out what's under there causing the issue and then treat accordingly. Only other option is to silicone it and cross your fingers beer

Aluminum wheel acid takes off rust pretty good. You could dilute it some with water and gently try it on the vinyl top surface with a damp cloth. Less is more at first to see if it works.

It can be hard on paint so pay attention to that.
