1969 Carpet question. - 08/23/22 02:25 AM

I have a 69 340 Swinger that still retains the original carpet pictured below. Notice the wide border on the rubber pad is toward the rear of the car. Any of the replacement carpet has the wide area to the front of the car as shown in the other pic. Any thoughts on this?

The bottom pic is the way it is supposed to be. I am sure they really didn't care for the repro's...

Look at Legendary's catalog and see if they have the correct one on any of their carpets and if they do ask them to make you a carpet with that one special. They did it for me.

It is correct, just wrong orientation. I don't know if there is a way to remove it and glue it back down, I am sure all the carpet on the market are probably like yours, unless a worker screwed up and put one on the correct way...LOL

I looked at all the carpet guys I could think of and they are all wrong. How could that kind of detail get missed and why don't the guys selling the carpet know the difference.

I'm pretty sure carpet is made to order anymore. They don't have boxes of carpet rolled up and sitting on a shelf somewhere. I'd contact ACC and see if they are aware of this and see if they can get it corrected on the carpet you order. You might not get anywhere with them but it's worth a shot.

I just looked, my carpet kit I bought circa 2-17-2000 on the box, its acc brand for my 69 r4 swinger is correct. I will have to look at my other f8 69 swinger I put carpet in 4 ish yrs ago and see what it is for my own curiosity. My carpet kit I bought for this car 4yrs ago has the pad backwards......

The ACC carpet I bought for my Duster race car back in the '90s has the correct orientation.
Not that it helps now, but at one time they had it right.

I have 4 new carpet kits I bought in the 90's and the orientation is correct, haven't had the need to buy any since then...

I had a similar deal about 15 years back with a customers 70 Mustang boss 302 And I believe it was Legendary that I caught with their pants down. They were assembling the front seat covers with the backrest pleats 90 degrees out to the bottom seat pleats confused So I went to a local mustang parts hoarder and confirmed the pleats were wrong.
When I contacted legendary the guy was like well that can't be shock. I said it certainly is whistling He asked ne to hold a minute. When he came back he said comparing the files to the assembly specs they had been doing them wrong for quite some time and that he would expedite new bottom covers but asked that I no spread it around on the forums which I agreed to until now.
I would occasionally check ebay, BJ, mecum etc and almost all the cars had the pleats flipped LOL shock hop

Re: 1969 Carpet question. - 08/25/22 01:10 AM

I contacted Legendary and they said they would have to get with ACC where they are made. Asked for pictures to send to ACC and ACC said they were correct.
I told Legendary that ACC was wrong and I was sending the carpet back to them requesting an RMA. Pisses me off that I have to pay shipping to send carpet back to
Legendary. ACC needs to bite the bullit and fix the problem since they have been informed.

That is unusual for legendary in my experience. Certainly hope their quality isn't slipping frown
I'd pursue it with them and send a copy of this post and maybe back it up with a few more pic's of survivor cars like these I'm sure there's more out there wink twocents beer

There is strength in numbers. Everyone that has bought the incorrect carpet from Legendary and ACC needs to get on the horn and let it be known.

Re: 1969 Carpet question. - 08/26/22 01:35 AM

Legendary has ALWAYS been 100% on it when it comes to doing it right in my 35 + years of dealing with them. Maybe you gt a millennial on the phone.

If all else fails, Facebook pages can generate favorable responses real quick wink
Might hit ACC as well, but if you bought it from legendary it's really in their ballpark IMO. They're likely to be able to generate more HEAT as well twocents beer Keep us posted stirthepot
