front hub run-out spec - 05/20/22 01:10 PM
Guys, hopefully looking for an answer, I turned down some custom front hubs out of billet aluminum for a custom disc brake set up, assembled on the spindle I'm getting approx .007 run-out measured at the hubs centric outer center where the wheel's centric bore will align with it, I looked on line, FSM's, etc, etc, maybe I'm overlooking it, but I don't see what an acceptable min/max run-out value is...Thanks for any help/suggestions

Radial runout or axial runout?

Mike my 70 FSM on the KH rotors says .0025 on run out. Don't know if that helps.

Radial runout or axial runout?
Roger it would be radial run out of the hub's centric value....since my post I turned down the factory spindles and installed some press fit IR journal races and machined the new surfaces for .001-.0015 slip fit for the inner/outer tapered bearings, radial run-out of the spindle/hub assy is now approx .003-.0035, which is pretty "tight" IMHO.....just curious what the factory min/max recommendation is...

Thanks Pete, I have a feeling that spec would be an axial measurement however, to check for hi-low spots/warped rotor surface?....unless it specifies radial?

I assume you are measuring the radial runout on the register for the wheel which is where most of the discussions I read took the measurement. I couldn't find anything definitive. There is a lot of tribal information on the web that seems to agree at 0.003" maximum but again, I can find no "official" specification for radial runout.

Roger, yes I'm measuring radial runout on the register, as the wheel will be hub-centric mounted not lug centric mounted.....I think .003 is fairly tight for a run out value with no load on it, that's another dynamic value of unknown quantities, it might seem trivial to some reading this, but the customer's vehicle will be a 200 mph + capable speed runner that I'm doing the brakes and suspension on as well as an Aero package, so just looking at getting it right, out of the box with no issues....
Thanks
