HELP!! A-Body wiper nightmare!!!

HELP!! A-Body wiper nightmare!!! - 04/12/09 01:35 AM

Help! I am going nuts trying to find the right part to get the wipers to work on my 1970 Dodge Dart. There is some sort of bushing or retainer that is supposed to connect the wiper linkage to the motor drive arm, but I cannot seem to locate the right part. I have bought 2 different bushings already but neither is even close. Near as I can tell the drive arm is about 3/8" diameter and the whole in the linkage is 3/4" or bigger. Does anyone know what piece I need?!? I'm going to post some photos.

I found a bushing that worked for my 68 in the Help section at the local auto part's store.

This one's from a '68 B-body, but I think the A-body part is the same or very similar.

Pretty much the same as the above picture, but there is a sheetmetal washer and spring clip that you need that I show in the picture. The washer goes through the pin, then the black plastic bushing, then the spring clip holds washer and bushing on the pin by slipping it over the pin to where the clamp captures the end of the pin.

That looks right! I think I have the spring clip and I can find a washer. Any idea where I can get the bushing??

As mentioned, your easiest and most affordable way to get the bushing is to find an auto parts store that has a "Help" section and buy the wiper arm linkage bushing pack (something like 6-12 in it) and of course, there will only be 2 Chryslers n the pack

I had to pick some up for the Duster and just got 2 of the packs and used what I could, don't know what happened to the rest of them...oh well.

You aren't looking at over $10 to get what you need...

For the record mine were found at AutoZone. I'm sure someone repops them, but by the time you pay freight you'd come out on the high side of the deal.

Another possibility - you're only 55 miles from Spring Fling, which is in two weeks. Lots of the vendors there have many of the odd or unusual parts you may not find anywhere else. May be worth a shot.

Is it a 2 speed or variable speed wiper motor? I looked in the 70 parts book and I believe the part number you need is 2580200 or 2631766 depending on which motor you have. Valley Vintage Auto Parts has the 2580200. Give them a call and maybe they can email you a pic of it to make sure it is the one you need. Phone# 440-355-4085

Can you provide the wiper link arm's hole diameter? And the part number stamped into the pitman arm?

I have these pieces I can send you if they are what you need:

Near as I can tell (it's TOUGH getting my hand in there) the hole measures 3/4" diameter.

By the way, just got back from Pep Boys and they have about 6 different packages of wiper bushings, but none of them looked even close to what I need.

I probably have 2 dozen of the correct parts. As seen in the picture I provided above, those parts were just laying around in a pan full of A-body only wiper parts. I have parted out over 300 Darts of all years in the last 30 years. If you can wait until Spring Fling, I can bring you a set you can have, and I can even help you install them!

I sure appreciate the offer, but I am actually trying to get the dash project done in time to take the car to the Fling. Or at least the Mopar cruise at California Car Cover on Saturday night if I have to thrash that Saturday day to finish it.

Any chance I could send you a couple of bucks and a SASE and get you to mail the bushing to me?
