Radiator cores

Every available 26" radiator for my 1973 Charger 340 CID has the over flow nipple pointing the wrong way towards the drivers side. It should point to the passenger side on a 1973 model year.
where can I purchase just a core?

Are you looking for a shop to re-core your radiator, reusing the existing tank/neck/nipple?

Or do you want to buy the bulk material to re-core the radiator yourself?

Yes but they work, especially the 22 inch big block b body ones. After the hell i went through 4000 woul d have been cheap

Where are you looking to purchase a radiator from? Could you pay extra to have them turn the fill neck? I am assuming you are looking for a replacement brass/copper radiator since you are concerned about the position of the overflow outlet, so your choices are probably pretty limited.

That said, I know the Champion aluminum radiator main outlet will modify one of their existing radiators to fit your needs. I've also seen a few racing radiator outlets that will build the radiator you need, but you have to get the radiator from the people that build them, not one of the retail outlets.

I still use Ring Radiators in Antioch, Illinois and they may be the last one in my neck of the woods, thank goodness they are still around...

yella71 are you in the same area as the OP? I know in the Cleveland, Ohio area there's still a few, one in particular that re-cored my '68 RR not that long ago. Just googled the place and still offering the same services. OP should do a search for radiator repair and re-core services in his area. Or just get out the torch and try himself if he's planning on replacing it anyway

I'm sure you know that the overflow nipple has nothing to do with the sealing of the radiator or radiator cap. If it's only a concern of the direction it is pointing I would remove that nipple and drill and place the nipple in the OE direction it needs to be, and plug the hole with silver solder or brass and be done with it, Just saying, Oh and I did a search in the Twin Cities area and found a couple or custom radiator repair and re-coring place there.

Thank you for all the responses. Let me explain why I'm asking for a source to buy cores:

1- As mentioned, there are very few radiator shops around any more. I called one local shop and was quoted $850 for a re-core.

2- I called another local shop, and they were interested in working on large commercial units.

3- I called Glen Ray over a year ago and left them a voice mail. i asked if I could send in my tanks and brackets for a re-core. I never got a call back. No I'm not interested in paying $1000.

4- I talked to classic industries regarding the published information on small block radiators. I sent pictures showing that the nipple points to the passenger side on 73 and 74 cars. That is where the overflow tank is located.
The person i talked to sent an email to Mark Worman asking for his input and copied me. Mark Worman never responded.

5- Yes I can buy a radiator from classic industries and go through the effort of having the filler neck indexed correctly. That is a radiator that does not show correct part numbers, and has an additional hole that needs to be plugged.

Having said all that, it makes sense to me to try and purchase a core if possible and swap out the tanks. I've rodded out a few radiators over the years. It's not that difficult.

What I did not mention is that I have another radiator that also needs to be re-cored. It's for the 1970 Challenger SE big block I'm restoring. I'd like to keep the original tanks.

It appears from what I'm seeing that buying cores is not going to be option. Next thing I'll have to try is widening my search radius and going an hour or more out of this metro area.

I think Spectra Premium makes cores or at least they used to.

$450 for a Hemi rad? That is 1995 prices right there..... The proper core with tube size and fin count would cost me more than that. You got a deal if it is the right spec core.

Been doing rads for 33 years and I would gladly swap a neck for you but its a bit too far to drive....

These guys had a hand in recoring the radiator for my Cordoba. They modified the tanks, too, to go from a single core to a double.

You are welcome. My understanding is they also sell on ebay, so they are no strangers to shipping their work. While delivered locally by a co-wroker, mine was boxed and taped with ebay logo'd shipping tape.
