Difference between SS and HD springs? - 04/09/09 02:00 PM
Hi,
I've searched the board but can't find a discussion on the difference between HD and SS springs. I'd like to know things like spring rates, ride height, which is more applicable for a street/strip car.
Thanks

Suffice is to say that now my SS springs and hangers have joined all the other parts that are incorrect or didn't work for one reason or another. More "garage art"!

xhd springs are stock replacements, have no arch at all when the car is sitting on all 4 wheels, and they make the car sit as low as they did when new.
ss springs have noticeble arch, require longer front hangers on a B or E body, and (in most cases, depending on part number) make the back of the car sit higher than stock.
For handling, xhd. For launch and handling, xhd with cal tracs. For launch with no traction devices and a slightly higher center of gravity/slightly worse handling (in most cases, depending on part number), SS.
I have 454/455 ss springs on the gtx, they work great

The part numbers for the springs in my pics are P3690454 and P369045X (which should be P360455 according to
http://www.mo-pod.com/pdf/09_Performance_Catalog-120908.pdf )
..still; looks like they are supposed to be correct for my application.
Oh well, the XHD ones have a nice arc to them and put the car in the perfect position. I just hope they are stiff enough to avoid axle wrap with street tires.
