Which tuff wheel has brushed finish on the spokes

Which tuff wheel has brushed finish on the spokes - 11/05/21 06:48 PM

Which of the aftermarket Tuff wheels have the brushed finish on the spokes? The one I have now the spokes appear to be just painted silver from what I can tell. Can the black grip on the wheel be painted of different color and still hold up to use. Also I have a padded horn button for the Tuff wheel and the chrome trim on the button is bad. Does anybody make a replacement for the plastic chrome piece on the button?

From what I am seeing, Jim's Auto Parts claims to have an EXACT reproduction Tuff Wheel. If that is the case, the spokes will be brushed aluminum. I am looking at getting one of these as my original one is starting to get small cracks in the rubber. These can be painted with the interior paints on the market. Herb's Automotive sells all the correct colors for Mopar interiors in aerosol cans. Good stuff, and a good company to work with.

As far as I know, the Grant wheel has always had the brushed finish on the spokes . . .

comes with the black hard plastic horn button . . . . only difference is the "rib" is in the wrong spot on the black of the wheel. Otherwise it is dead nuts on. . .

Cheers

Do not buy from Jim's or have to deal with his nasty wife.
When i was looking at the repo wheels.
The Grant listed above was close and best bang for the buck.
They do have the Grant foam, more correct foam, Grant Leather, Correct looking at Classic Industries made by OER if you look they have them type in Mopar Tuff Wheel

They also have a few made by PG Classics as well a foam and leather.
I can not locate my tuff wheel adapter so never grabbed one, but did look at all the options out there.
I have my worn to crap wheel horrn and cap but never pulled the trigger on a swap as can not locate the A Body adapter inn my pike of crap.
One wheel has 1.5" and the others ,have deeper of 2.5"
Just putting that out there.
I should have had none fixed year's,ago and leather wrapped back when that service was offered. And when I knew where I put the adapter lol
I do not need to be spending money so my Deluxe Whell is staying.
I had to.talk myself out of getting one again looking at them to get the link.

As far as horn button there are all kinds out there that fit the horn.

They are not dead nuts on.
Just for reference I went and looked at the offset on my old crappy brushed one.
Looks like 2"
I photo the brushed and part number so you know it is not aftermarket

I just bought one from roseville moparts, brushed finished and about 14 1/2 diameter which was exactly what i wanted, fit perfectly on a stock ebody column and crush can, came complete with horn button.

Wasn`t the original wheel some type of stainless? not aluminum?

What happened with the ones being sold by "QuickSilver" on eBay? I got one of those and it is a REALLY nice wheel. Some small differences on spokes cut outs ( a bit off ) but I was really pleased with it!

Well, I also got it as a "Blemished" product from them on $80, not the listed price at $240 or so, so at that price it was easier to be pleased!. I never found the blemish on my wheel. Maybe some small details on the rubber grip? Or maybe the off cut outs? Dunno.

I guess QuickSilver was not the manufacturer really, so must be still around?

And yes, originals are SS... the repro I got it is SS too. Brushed not painted

I have an original and it’s defiantly not aluminum, and it’s not painted. It might be stainless…but it does slightly develop rust over time.

The originals are steel that was brushed and plated.
I posted pictures above to show the brushed.

All the repro ones look decent, but will never pass for oem if your getting into a judged class. On the plus side, they look real good, affordable and still make an impact on the look in the interior. I have like 5, 3 mint ones I bought in the 90's still sitting in my closet for when I feel like putting them on cars. When I sell a car, I swap it out for a stock one. Would like to find a good core one day so I can have it custom recovered a little wider for my big hands.

The repro I got from QuickSilver is REALLY hard to see is not original. Just a trained eye or putting side by side with an original will tell. One thing is true dunno how hard is/was the rubber grip because the original from my car was already "gradated" and chunked. On the repro the grip is a bit harder than I expected. I thought it was to be a bit softer.

As mentioned, just spokes cut outs are a bitt off, and the molded grip got less rounded edges on the seam simulation. They are sharper/squarish than the original.

The repro I got looks very good but its not perfect. The spokes connect to the rim in a different place than the original. For a driver its a great choice.
