727 Rebuilt after 500 km, debris in pan. - 05/25/21 01:34 PM

Hello from Germany,
.
I hope someone can help me out. I rebuilt a A727 a couple of months ago. (Behind a 440). New bands, plates, checked all clearances etc. After 500 km, the pan was dropped, and what looks like iron filings were in the pan. The transmission makes no noise, and shifts fine.

Thanks for any insight on this.

A small amount of debris is normal , get a thin round magnet , like one found in the later OD's , and stick it in a corner of the pan away from moving servos.

How did you flush the cooler before installing the trans?
Did you replace the converter when the trans was rebuilt?
Why did you rebuild the trans to start with?

I agree, install a magnet - passenger side rear of the pan.
If it runs fine currently, you have nothing to lose by cleaning the pan, adding the magnet and monitor from that point on.

This is my opinion, take it as such. The first time you pull the pan on a reman/new automatic after a few thousand miles, you are going to find about a teaspoon of crud in the pan. Nothing to worry about. Clean the pan out, replace the filter, and enjoy. up

I used to work as a transmission tech many years ago. It was common knowledge to us that 727s were trashy but reliable transmissions. A bit of debris in the pan is common, especially after a rebuild. Don't worry about it as long as it is functioning correctly.

iagree
But will add that's a bit more debris than I'd like to see or have seen on the first fluid change. May go back to the first two questions by transman
