Transmission Enhancement

Transmission Enhancement - 04/09/21 01:17 PM

I've been looking at ways to increase the torque capability of a stock A833. I've read articles on:

1) cryo treatment
2) micro polishing
3) shot peening
4) glass beading

Has anyone tried any of these techniques on the input shaft/cluster gear or have any thoughts on how effective they may or may not be?

Thanks!

Proper shot peening helps immensely. That’s why it is universally used for conn rods, cranks, flexplates, internal gearsets in auto transmissions.
We had issues with the 604 OD shaft, simply shot peening it reduced the failures.
Same with many of our flexplates, cracking around the crank flange. Shot peening stopped the failures.

I thought cryogenic was for surface friction reduction. (Edit- just found out it helps in certain situations from hardness too).
Micro removes surface imperfections that could lead to stress crack formation and reduce friction too.
Glass beading I thought was for cleaning. I would be surprised if it helped a hardened gear at all.
