External Oiling - 04/01/09 09:13 PM

The oil pan for my Hemi has been cut up, butchered and badly put back together, and the new front clip doesn't have room for a stock Hemi pan. The pan on ther now looks like it's only going to hold 3 - 4 quarts! NOT GOOD!

I need to go to an external oil system but don't know anything about them. Is there some place I can read up on this, web site, forum, etc.?

You have to punch a hole in the side of the pan and install a pickup through the hole with AN connectors and a braided line going to the adapter on the oil pump itself. Milodon sells the pump adapter and pickup. You can use Areoquip line and fittings. You will need to plug the old pickup hole in the block with a pipe plug. The info may be on Milodon's web site. Hope this helps you get started.
Other manufactures also make kits and different pumps for the application.

You can get the kit from Milodon and a pan from them that will work out of the box. Or you can punch a hole in one you already have.

If you are running stock engine mounts IE not a motor plate, count on doing some work on building a hose that will fit. It isn't a hard task, just takes some time and paitence

Do you mean a dry sump system? where you can run a small pan? Or a wet sump with an external line. They are NOT anything close to each other.

No additional tank, all you are doing is picking up the oil at the bottom (side) of the pan and bringing it up to the oil pump externally by way of a braided line. So rather than using an internal pickup through the block to the oil pump you are going on the outside of the pan to the oil pump. That simple.

reason I ask is 3-4 quarts in a wet sump is not going to be safe.
