Anyone running Engine Quest heads on 360 magnum?

Anyone running Engine Quest heads on 360 magnum? - 06/10/08 03:56 AM

About to build a 360 magnum for an A-body. Has anyone used these heads and if so are you satisfied with them? Most places I've seen sell only the bare heads and you supply the valve train. I found a place in Florida that sells the complete heads for 700.00 shipped to anywhere in the US and he pays postage for the return of your old heads and it doesn't matter if they are cracked, as mine are. These are supposed to flow better that the magmun rt heads, about 224CFM on the intake side. What's you opinion? Thanks for the response. Gary

390 Stroker here... Great heads for the money. I did alot of porting and installed 2.02 intakes. Excellent bang for the buck aned casting quality was also very good... TBF

From what I have read the out of the box casting quality is very good. They are also thick allowing a lot of porting if desired. Hughes sells them as their "Iron Ram" heads. Best budget iron head you can get.

contact these people:

http://www.cmengines.com/

they quoted me EQ 318B's with OEM valves and GM3100 springs/retainers set up at 1.65" IH for $650/pr, and 318B's with chev +.100" long valves, and springs good for a .550" lift hydraulic roller for $850/pr no core charge.

I am thinking about buying a set of these for my 360 Magnum for the 72 Dart. Fully assembled with a 1 year warranty for $479.00 and they sound like they are similar to the Quest heads.

Wayfarer those look like the chinese imitations that i have heard bad things about. The real EQ is made in newzealand or austrailia. They are a real good bang for the buck. The best bang for the buck is the pro-toplines if you can find a set. I hav e a pair of them at the house and have had all 4 iron mags at the house at once R/T EQ PT and factory and the R/T would be best in a max effort build then the topline would be best in OOTB build then the EQ then the factory. I have not seen the chinese one in person but the casting quality looks terible in all the pics I have seen.

I am supposed to have 2 pairs of aluminum mopar mags at my house this eavning and if they look as good as they sound I will probably sell my Pro-Toplines.

I checked out clearwater and they're heads (EQ) are 325 per head with shipping @ 50 for both and they pay the shipping for the return of a set of cores. The warranty is three years unlimited. So for $700 dollars I would say that these are the best bang for my budget.

Unless someone knows of a place that offers them cheaper....

the $325ea CME ones had upgraded springs (gm 3100, search the tech archives for details), not stock ones like the clearwater heads....you'll be at least another $100 into upgrading the stock springs...

welp, here's the email I sent, and the reply:

Patrick,

That cylinder head with the OE valves and type of springs you want would run $325.00 each for the new EQ castings.

With the Chevy .100" long valves, they would run $425.00 each.

We do not have any good used castings at this time.

Subject: cylinder head question

How much for a set of '92-02 Dodge Magnum cylinder heads remanufactured
w/a 5 angle valve job, and with valve springs that would be good to
about .51" lift with a 350 lb/in rate? (I'm thinking, using the
springs/retainers from a GM 3100 V-6 application set up at about 1.65"
installed height with the dodge locks)

Alternately, it looks like you are an Enginequest dealer. how much for
a set of Enginequest 318B heads bare? assembled with a similar
valve/spring combo as above, or using 1.94"/1.625" Small block chevy
11/32 stem, +.100" length valves, and a spring setup good for about .55"
lift with a similar spring rate?

in a follow up email, he said they do their own valve job on them, so I'm guessing they would play with that a bit to get the proper installed height for the springs I requested?

I just talked to the company offering the new casting Magnum heads on Ebay for $479.00/pair assembled. The guy said the are made by Pro Comp which is an Australian company.

They are supposed to be nice, clean castings. Anyone have experience with Pro Comp products? Good, Bad, Ugly?

Pro comps are junk chinese castings. Pro-Toplines are austrailian made but are no longer made. I have a brand new set however I might be willing to sell.

A month and a half ago I was watching the Aussie ones getting machined. They are CNC machined just outside Melbourne...and going strong (they had pallets and pallets of them around)
I will have to double check the brand name they are sold under here, they didn't have any of them around boxed, just the finished machined ones stacked up

I do know they where not cast in the same spot as they where machined, I can't remember what state they where getting cast in, QLD I think

Enginequests are cast in either Austrailia or New Zeeland. Pro Comp claims to be an austrailian company, but their heads are cast (and I think machined) in china
