A body hood scoop question

What material are they originally made of and will an original have a number on it? Thanks

They were made using RIM molding (Reaction Injection Molding). This process allows two or more componants to be mixed into the injection mold simultaneously under heat and presure, the componants then catalyze into a solid in the mold. It's a plastic product but not a thermoplastic like many other automotive products. The basic main componants are plastic resin, very fine glass fiber, and talc powder. When comingled this gives you a light, stiff, warp & heat resistantant product. When you drill holes in it the talc powder shows itself as a fine white dust. Many confuse it for fiberglass which it is not. Yes, all parts I've seen made in this way for a Mopar had a part# and pentastar molded in.

1971 Challenger side scoops would not be on that list unless you are talking reproduction parts here.

Sportsman vans also used many of these plastic trim pieces on the upper half of the interior.

Were all the pieces made by made by Rockwell?

So an original scoop should look kinda like the material in a heater box? I'll look for a part number as well. I noticed one for $100.00 and that sounds reasonable to me.

$100 for an original A-body scoop in nice shape is a steal.

No, but they are made using the same process (RIM) just different raw materials.
