going to do my suspension where do you purchase cosmoline from and do they make it in a spray bomb? Is there a color paint match that duplicates the color any suggestions on what to buy? Thanks

You will probably have to color match it, Cosmoline, is nasty crap. You could also try asking A gun dealer that deals in Surplus rifle, they may know of a source for it, as many nations store firearms,coated in it.

70 Buzz- Do a search for it on the net. There has been a post here and members say where they got it from. Can get it in a can and/or a 5 gal bucket for bigger peices.(dont have the thread off hand)

There's a few sources for real Cosmoline, and a few sources for imitations in paint form,....should you require "real" Cosmoline, be aware it will take a few weeks to dry, and it will remain somewhat waxy for it's life on the car,.....a 5 gallon bucket will run around $250, sprays run around $25-$50 for sprayable Cosmoline, ...simulated sprays from $2 to $25


it boils down to how "original" you want your car?, or whats in your budget?, or how durable, or resistant you want your finish?

I offer Real Cosmoline in a sprayable 14 OZ can, enough to do 4-6 sets of lower control arms, depending how "dark" you want the coating,....originaly the arms were hung by the ball joint hole on a conveyor rack, and lowered into a molten Cosmoline vat, leaving a small exposed area of steel around the ball joint hole, the reason was to avoid wax in the hole so that on the assy. line the ball joint didn't spin as the worker assembled it,......with a sprayable Cosmoline you can simulate the dipping by carefully taping off the end to simulate a submersion "plumb line" as if it was hanging on line, runs, drips, sags and discoloration would be the norm along the control arms length in a vertical position

I used CRC SP400 and it worked very well.. You can search the web for it. It comes in 5 gal and paint can sizes. It will remain tacky for a couple of days and color depends on how much you apply.

Here is spayable cosmoline, it's on the thin side so it spayable but one can will do a pair of lower a arms. Best part it's around $10, I paid $8 and see it online for $9, a can!! I got mine from a local marine shop who supplied our shop.

And heres a arm I did, I didn't sand/bead blast or paint this arm as I'm not looking to restore just preserve a org car. The arms had most of the org coatingon it before I cleaned it off in the parts washer, so the arm was in better than average shape. Next time I will hang the arm and spay it heavy to get the runs as were found from the factory. I have about three spayed coats on this arm. I waited about a 1/2 hour between coats and it will take some time as stated above to cure up good but on my test spays durt wouldn't stick after a few days.

From what I've seen using the stuff below, it's a pretty close match.
