Cold air intake

Cold air intake - 05/25/20 01:48 PM

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum... maybe should be in truck or gen III?
I’m thinking off putting a cold air intake on my 2017 megacab 6.4. Fuel economy went down a bit with the 35’s I put on about 10K miles ago. Question is, would a cold air intake increase MPG at all. Any other benefits to it? Any drawbacks? Thinking S&B
Thoughts?

It looks like it draws in air from the inner fender instead of the hot engine compartment. That's a good thing. Most power #s on the CAI are inflated. I wouldn't expect much of a gain in hp or MPG. Any gains you might see will be due to the higher flowing filter IMO. I had a cheap CAI on my 14 Ram but I took it off. It did sound really good when my foot was on the floor. However, with the "drive by wire" you don't have control of the throttle. The computer controls the throttle NOT you. This creates some weird throttle noises. Maybe it isn't an issue with the cars but the way the trucks are tuned it got annoying and I removed it.

Personally, not a believer in them after much reading. As already stated, power numbers are inflated by makers by testing in absolutely perfect conditions that you won't experience in real world. Also read up on what they actually filter out. Not good. With your truck being a newer model, I'm sure it's drawing it's air from somewhere other than hot air from under the hood.
