So my application is more performance then longevity oriented. I also work more with SS and tig weld everything.

The weight difference is noticeable, a little more pain to weld, and I likely will exhaust wrap a bit of the tubing,

Not sure if there is much price difference between the two gauges.

I be welding purchased mandrel bends, so I don't have to bend anything.

I'm leaning towards 18g.

Anything I am missing?

Exhaust tubing is typically 16-ga., sometimes 14. 18-ga. is really thin! The 304SS tubing & bends I sell are 16-gauge, & made in USA. I would NOT purchase imported 304SS tubing, because you will not know what material it really is.

I use 16 gauge stainless and bend it myself.

I do a lot of turbo stuff so no 18 gauge for me. As a matter of fact, most of what I use is 14 gauge. I think it TIG welds better too, just a bit slower.

After Mig tacking everything and removing to finish Tig, I clean the whole pipe and send it out for Ceramic coating to keep the heat in and improve the flow too.
