DEAD CYLINDER - 04/13/20 08:26 PM

I HAVE A 318 IN MY 65 PLYMOUTH SATELLITE. LATELY IT STARTED POPPING WHILE IDLING. I CHECKED TO SEE WHICH CYLINDER WASN'T FIRING AND FOUND OUT THAT #8 IS NOT. I PUT A NEW PLUG AND IT IS STILL NOT FIRING ON THAT CYLINDER. ANYBODY HAS AN IDEA WHY IT IS NOT FIRING? IT JUST STARTED DOPING IT YESTERDAY. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Start with a compression check.

When you say "popping", is it popping through the carb or through the exhaust? Either way, a compression test will tell you more. Could be a blown head gasket allowing the adjacent cylinder to fire into that cylinder, or you have a burnt or bent valve.

Bent push rods and push rods punched through rocker arms or lifters are fairly common on small blocks.

Removing a valve cover is a quick way to take a look inside.

Before we jump on anything, did you check to see if you even had spark on number 8? Might just be a bad plug wire or even the cap.

...or possible small vacuum leak could have dropping of that cyl at idle, but small brake torque should bring it back for diagnosis sake.
