The only car I've ever personally saw that on was my 1977 Plymouth `Volare I bought new in '77. I thought it was a strange devil then. It may be on other cars but that's my experience. And BTW, I seem to remember someone offering those but I can't resurrect a reference.

yes, 77 Plymouth is correct. I wonder why a few metal plugs and the rest are rubber? If you come up with a place that has them please let me know. thanks

"Typically" metal plugs were used when they were located over top of the exhaust.
