E Body Rallye Gauge Question - 03/25/09 04:56 PM

Hi Guys,

Can some one explain to me the difference in Rallye gauges for e body cars? I'm looking for a set for my 71 Challenger and see that some are for a 70-71 and 72-74. Will either fit? Will I need a different wiring harness? If I replace them do I need a new light bar also? Would It be better to wait until Carlisle to get one more reasonably priced or get it from E-bay, etc? I have a 71 convertible is there a difference in the rallye gauges? Thanks

Dave

the clock and trip guage reset knobs are in the different location on a 70/71 vs 72/74. the 72/74 cars had it in the guage itself while the earlier ones had it in the trim panel off to the side. Also they went to a 7k tach sometime after early 72.

most noticable is the clock and odo reset stems stick out of the guage face on the 72+, instead of coming out of the woodgrained area. Not sure when the 7K tach replaced the 8K? There are other diffences and hopefully others will chime in.

The later years also had a seat belt warning light in the side panel and the latest years also had universal symbols for the headlight, wiper, and dimmer switches.
