Pilot bearing on input shaft

I’ve pieced together a 4 speed for my 72 Cuda. It’s all together and moving under it’s own power.

The trans is from a 70 B body with the dual shifter locations.

The reason for the post is this. You could see where the pilot bushing had worn a spot on the input shaft. A in my picture. When I installed my trans checked the depth of the input shaft to make sure that I wouldn’t hit the crank. I didn’t but the pilot bushing is right up next to the splines on the input shaft like they are in the B in my picture.

Do you guys think that I’ll have a problem? I called Brewer’s and he thought that I’d be ok.

Which pilot bushing are you using? the thin tube type that goes inside the drilled hole in the crank or the type that uses the centering ring?

The roller bearing will be behind any damage caused by a stock bushing on the input shaft.

The pilot bushing goes in the back of the crankshaft, then the input shaft slides into it.

It's a bearing and it's in my crankshaft.

The question that I have is whether or not the input shaft will "flop around" since the bearing is so far aft of where the pilot BUSHING had been on the previous car.

Does it matter where the the bushing or bearing falls along the length of the input shaft?

So, you have the second one, it's fine as far as the input shaft flopping about.

Any support forward of the splines part of the shaft will be good, as long as the clutch dist doesn't drag against it. Gene

Like mentioned above, as long as there is a bushing or bearing in place you are good to go.
