Sorry, I just had to laugh

externally the gerotor or gear rotors style are the most quiet. Unless of course you go high dollar.

Maybe you're looking at it the wrong way. At least you know it's actually running.

The Mallory pumps are very quite! If you use the rubber isolator mounts (similar to the ones used on MSD but bigger) this will help stop some of the pumps vibration from being transferred to the frame. My BG 400 pump was mounted this way, but I could still hear it (not as loud as a Holley).

My brother ran the Holley blue pump from 1982 to 2005. He got a deal on a used Mallory and put it on. Says he thought all elec pumps were loud and had no idea how nice and quiet the Mallory is.

Will the Mallory 110 feed a 500ci BB?? I have a Holley also and literally, it's louder than the exhaust, and I have a rather noisey exhaust!

Depends what you are doing with it.

Mallory also makes bigger pumps using the same mechanism.

Street drive mostly, with the occasional 1/4 trip. Don't want to run out of gas when rednecking it though!!!

Re: i need a quiet electric fuel pump - 03/23/09 01:15 AM

I had a Holley blue and it was annoyingly loud. took it apart to see if something was wrong and it looks perfect. put on my Dad's old Edelbrock 120 gal and it was half as loud. The Eddy pump is self regulated but is adjustable. It showed just over 5.5 psi on my gauge at the carb, turned up the pressure at the pump and it got a fair bit louder once almost 7 psi was reached. Still quieter than the Holley though.
I run around with the pump set at just under 6 psi and crank it up to 7 for racing, probably does nothing for me but I do it anyway.

Don.

Well, I have to do something, whether it is a Mallory or back to a mechanical one. I took my son's friend a ride and he said it sounded like a flux capacitor!!

ok, i wanted to let all of you guys who didnt recommend louder exhaust or stereo systems and seem to be really interested in a quiet pump know that i found one - the walbro GSL 392 is a neat, QUIET inline pump that feeds my 440 with eddy heads and 950 TQ carb perfectly.

Im using a Mallory 140 with about an inch of rubber between it and the lower bottom of the rear floor. It is every bit as loud as the Holley blue I had.
