what size bolts/screws - 07/31/19 01:03 AM

46RE transmission filter bolts/screws were missing when I bought my 03 Durango 5.9 last week. So was the pan gasket (but that's a whole 'nother story rolleyes ) They are not #12- 24 - too small and not 1/4" like the valve body mounting bolts too big. Thought metric but 5mm .8 is too small. thought i tried a 6mm .8 and found it too big.
Thoughts?

Thanks,
Scott

Order new ones from your local Dodge/Chrysler dealer scope

I would order them but they'll take 2 weeks!! and they're $5 ea for 80 cent bolts. Yeah, I'm that cheap! Is there such a thing as 5.5mm screws? Its the only thing that makes sense. Unless Mopar has their own specially designed thread size and pitch that only works in the transmission filter screw holes realcrazy

Look up mopar parts online and they should have a picture and description of the bolts, Including size.

try a 6.0-1 screw. can't help with the length, and i think mopar is too cheap to specify a special thread pitch.
take out one of the VB screws by the filter area and take it with you when you go to wherever you are going to try to find screws.
get the length a little longer than the one you took out. by how much, i can't help.

Here's the page from the 2003 parts book. The screw is item #7. If you can't read it, the size is .19-24 X 2.5"

Thanks guys. Figured it out. I found a source online that had a good picture and it dawned on me that I was way over thinking it. Thought they screwed into the valve body. Forgot they go THROUGH body and into case. They are about 3" long and about a coarse #10 with a torx head. Turns out I had them all along in a bag of miscellaneous hardware the previous owner included on the deal. I was wondering what thos long skinny screws were. whistling Embarrassed but relieved rolleyes

pretty neat you found the bolts ! it's always the little things that seem to bite a guy.

twodoorpost, thanks for that VB parts drawing ! up i believe the .190-24 thread is a 10-24. those are common VB screw sizes, and after measuring a 727 VB screw, the od of the screw is .1898.
